The Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, had delivered his polling unit 003, Eyelori Compound and Ward B in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government of Ekiti State to the ruling All Progressives Congress during the governorship election on Saturday, 18th June, 2022.
After the sorting and counting of the entire vote cast at the polling unit, it was realized that Bamidele’s party, the APC had 131 votes, SDP had 20 votes, PDP had 16 votes while ADC had only One vote.
Similarly at the Iyin-Ekiti Ward B, All Progressives Congress scored 2169 votes, Social Democratic Party, 373 votes while PDP got 226 votes.

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, the Ekiti Central Senator, described the governorship election exercise as smooth and peaceful and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the smooth conduct of the poll across the length and breadth of the State.

” The reports reaching me from across the State so far indicated a smooth and peaceful poll and the person Ekiti people voted for will emerge as the winner.”
He explained that there has been a great improvement in the nation’s Electoral system especially due to the provisions of the new Electoral Act which gives room for the electronic transmission of election results from each polling unit to the INEC National headquarter immediately after the sorting and counting of the ballot, thereby preventing result manipulation along the way.

Senator Bamidele pointed out that inspite the great improvements, “it is not yet uhuru with our electoral system, adding that the electronic transmission of the entire voting exercise is far better, rather than the transmission of election results only. He said the transmission of voting to the INEC headquarter will help tremendously in curbing the menace of electoral malpractices in Nigeria.
