The ancient town of Iyin-Ekiti in Ekiti State came alive on Saturday with royal splendour, cultural rhythm, and political glamour as the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB), was installed as the Oluomo of Iyin-Ekiti by the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye (Oyinyosaye III).

The prestigious title, conferred during the colourful 2025 Iyin-Ekiti Day Celebration, was offered by the Oluyin-in-Council and the people of Iyin-Ekiti in recognition of Bamidele’s enduring contributions to the development and transformation of his birthplace.
It was a ceremony that beautifully merged tradition and contemporary prestige — with cultural troupes, royal drummers, and traditional dancers electrifying the palace arena, as dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered to celebrate one of Ekiti’s most illustrious sons.

In his heartfelt remarks, Senator Bamidele described the title as “a touching homecoming honour”, noting that it was the first traditional title he has ever received in over three decades of public service.
“This honour from my people means more to me than any political recognition. It will continue to inspire me to do more — not only for Iyin-Ekiti but for humanity at large,” he said.

The event also witnessed the conferment of royal titles on other notable Nigerians:
Senator Jubrin Barau, Deputy President of the Senate – Agba Akin of Iyin-Ekiti
Senator Jide Ipinshagba, Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Procurement – Aare Bobagunwa of Iyin-Ekiti
Hon. (Engr.) Remi Oseni, Chairman, House Committee on FERMA – Aare Bobajiroro of Iyin-Ekiti
Otunba Niyi Adebayo, former Governor of Ekiti State – Asiwaju of Iyin-Ekiti

The installation of Senator Bamidele as Oluomo of Iyin-Ekiti marks a significant moment of cultural pride for the community — a celebration of leadership, service, and legacy.
